Betty Makoni, Founder and Director of the Girl Child Network, Honoured by Dalai Lama 

Betty Makoni, founder of the Girl Child Network (GCN), an organization working with CCI in Zimbabwe, was honoured by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on April 26th for her work empowering girls through the establishment of clubs for girls designed to build self-esteem and support learning.  It is estimated that the GCN's clubs have reached 300 000 girls throughout Zimbabwe.

Betty was one of 49 "heroes of compassion" who were honoured by His Holiness the Dalai Lama at an event held in San Francisco hosted by the organization, Wisdom in Action. The honorees, ranging in age from 12 to 77, hail from 13 countries and come from a variety of ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.  Our congratulations go out to Betty for this well deserved honour.
