Carly Friesen (Ghana, 2016-2017)

Carly FriesenAs a long time advocate for the rights of women and girls, I am excited to finally be working directly to promote women’s rights and improve women’s lives. Crossroads’ vision is “One world where poverty is eliminated, equality prevails, and the rights of women and girls are fulfilled”. This is a vision that I share with Crossroads, and I am excited to use my time with them to further this vision and work towards our shared goals.

During my 10 month placement, I will be working in Ghana with one of Crossroads partner organisations, NEWIG - Network of Women in Growth. I will be working as an Organizational Development Advisor to help NEWIG create an updated strategic plan for their organization. I will also be working to help them build tools to implement this plan, and will work in collaboration with a monitoring and evaluation specialist.

I come to Crossroads with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph. I started my career in the construction industry, but after a short time I made the choice to switch into the non-profit sector. I have experience working in Project Management, Strategic Planning, and Education and Training. I have previously volunteered with the Feminist Art Conference, Engineers without Borders, and Women for Women International. I look forward to bringing my experiences from these past opportunities to my work with NEWIG and Crossroads International.

You can keep up to date on my work at my blog here: www.carlyfriesen.com/blog.
