Lawrence Hill December 2015 event

Celebrate the spirit of volunteerism with Lawrence Hill

International Volunteer Day is an opportunity to celebrate the time and expertise that our volunteers so generously give throughout the year. Join best-selling author and four-time Crossroads volunteer Lawrence Hill as he discusses the impact volunteering has made on his life and writing.

“In the seventies and eighties, I travelled to Africa three times with Crossroads International,” says Hill. “Each of those trips changed me, and shaped my view of myself and the world. Eventually, the experience helped inspire me to write stories and novels, including The Book of Negroes.” During Hill’s third volunteer placement with Crossroads he met a mid-wife in Mali who inspired the protagonist Aminata from his award-winning novel The Book of Negroes.

Join us to celebrate the spirit of volunteerism and to learn more about Hill’s experiences during a Q+A with CBC Radio’s Metro Morning news reader Jill Dempsey. A short reading from Hill’s new novel “The Illegal” and a book signing will follow.
